drappus GmbH was founded in the spring of 2016. The company name drappus initially results as an acronym of "drangmeister application programming, products and (und) systems" – drappus, as a word, is etymologically also a reference to Medieval Latin drappus (garment) as well as French draper (artfully arranged in folds) and thus expresses a creative claim. An intended essential business purpose is consequently the creation of algorithms and products for the 3D modeling of objects on the basis of "standard" smartphone hardware and software equipment – i.e. photogrammetric 3D modeling in the sense of an "Augmented Reality" for everyone and at any time. Previously carried out marketing studies discovered in this regard an available economic potential and initial implementations confirmed the feasibility of such an approach. For the insights gained so far, see: FieldsOfWork.

The before mentioned term "Augmented Reality" (AR) describes the enhancement of 3D modeled objects with additional information. However, "Augmented Reality" is more or less also a neologism of marketing and marketing has to reinvent per se itself again and again – if necessary, pouring old wine into new bottles. So far, in this area there have been the terms "Augmented Reality" (AR), "Virtual Reality" (VR) and "Mixed Reality" (MR), recently in some advertising brochures and in Wikipedia the alleged overarching term "Extended Reality" (XR) appeared. It remains to be seen to what extent a distinction between the terms named is still possible in the spectrum of the "Reality-Virtuality Continuum".
